Hi All!

Could someone tell me what Rabicino markings look like and how they relate or not to the Sabino markings? Is Rabicino genetic?
Many Thankx for any info!

Firehorse, the term is "rabicano" and it is a type of roaning pattern that frequently accompanies the sabino gene. It normally expresses in the form of a "coon tail" (white hairs at the top of the tail in layers, sometimes dramatically so) and roaning along the flanks and ribs. It is a genetic color pattern. I don't have a pic of an Arabian that displays the pattern but here is a QH filly who does, and I'm pretty sure she carries the sabino gene as well:

Hopefully others will post pics showing the coon-tail better than this one does.

Here is my Caspian mare who always sheds out rabicano every spring, and then loses it (turns plain ol' chestnut) in the summer: http://www.echovalle...com/Velvet.html

I will have to get some pics, but my Little man Rennie has a skunk tail, roaning on the flanks and barrel as well as roaning down the center of his throat. He's really the most interesting Rabicano I have seen.

My Anglo Arabian stallion is a rabicano. He is not a sabino.

Here are some photos.

The first one shows the roaning in his flanks and tail, but he actually has the white hairs starting on the back of his ears, down his neck, between his front legs, then back to his flanks.

You can see the roaning here starting just behind the girth.

Here is a better angle, maybe?

This is my flaxen, rabicano, & sabino filly Bunny (Pacific Eyes by Om el Shahmaan x Pacific Echo by Echo Magnifficoo). Can see her obvious roaning through the flanks, but she also has a skunk tail. She developed very intriguing 'lacing' across her back over the winter, but it has shed out and sadly she no longer shows it.
