RUSSIAN ROULETT+ has been one of the Arabian breed’s greatest ambassadors. Time and time again in open jumping competition against all breeds he emerged victorious and he changed many peoples’ minds about the trainability and athleticism of Arabians, as well as their speed-his course completion times are remarkable and in many cases far faster than that of horses far larger than he is. His ancestry provides the key to his success, as he comes from many generations of horses known for their athletic ability and speed as racehorses.

RUSSIAN ROULETT+’s ancestry traces to proven racing blood from Poland, Russia and Egypt. His sire is a grandson of *BASK++, best known as a U.S. National Champion Stallion and Park winner and the breed’s all time leading sire of champions, but less well known is that *BASK++ had a 4 year race career in Poland with 40 starts, 8 of which he won, and he finished in the money in 22 of his races and retired sound, and that he had successful race winners to his credit in the early years of American Arabian racing. His race winning get include ACE OF SPAYDES, AVISION, COMPANJON, CHECK, CHARITI, BAY REPLICA, TC THEASKO, and the stakes winners ALOVELYDREAM (Arabian Oaks winner) and BASK-O-ZEL, named U.S. National Champion Racehorse and a sire of race winners including stakes winner ALONGTHEWAY and stakes placed BJ, who in a ten year racing career finished in the money in 90 of his 111 races, 19 of which he won. Intriguingly, his dam is a granddaughter of *TALAL, who appears on the distaff side of RUSSIAN ROULET+’s heritage.

RUSSIAN ROULETT+’s dam is by U.S. National Champion Stallion and all time leading Russian sire of champions *MUSCAT, again a very well known show horse and show horse sire but he was also a race winner in Russia and sired 7 American race winners from 14 get who raced, including multi-race winner MINNERVA (exported to the Middle East) and stakes winner ARTYMUSCO, who was in the money in all of his races. *MUSCAT’s sire *SALON was a Russian race winner and sired the stakes winner MALUTKA (whose dam is a MAMMONA granddaughter, *MUSCAT is out of a MAMMONA daughter). *MUSCAT’s dam MALPIA finished second in the Russian Oaks and was stakes placed three times and produced three Russian race winners including stakes winner MODA and *MOMENT, a multiple race winner who is a full brother to *MUSCAT. MALPIA is by the leading Russian sire of stakes winners, PRIBOJ, who has 26 Russian stakes winners and 19 Russian stakes placed horses to his credit. MAMMONA, dam of MALPIA, produced 6 Russian race winners including the stakes winner MONOPOLIA (whose son *MAGNAT sired Polish Derby winner SANOS) MONOPOLIA is also the dam of Russian 2 year old record holder *MONOGRAMMA, dam of U.S. Reserve National Champion Futurity Colt MONOGRAMM, sire of National Champions in North America and Europe.

The third racing connection in RUSSIAN ROULETT+’s ancestry comes through U.S. Top Ten Stallion *TALAL, known as a show horse in America but who raced successfully in Egypt as “JOHNNY BOY”. *TALAL sired the American race winner TALISON and his son TALAGATO, a Canadian Reserve National Champion Stallion, sired race winner LA MARINER. The durable stakes placed racehorse BJ, already mentioned, is out of a *TALAL granddaughter. *TALAL is out of ZAAFARANA, who produced AMRULLA, winner of 6 races in Egypt and who sired U.S. race winner and race winner sire *HEDARR.

The racing connections in RUSSIAN ROULETT+’s pedigree gave him speed, and he has other connections to significant show ring athletes as well. A brief tour around his pedigree shows tat in the first three generations, all of the horses have National titles, have produced National winners, or are the parents of National winner producers! His sire WIND FORTUNE sired National winners in halter, reining, jumping, western pleasure and western sidesaddle as well as U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian 50 Mile Endurance Horse JAMILA KHALIL+. WIND FORTUNE has 7 get who have produced National winners, including three who trace on their dam sides to horses found in RUSSIAN ROULETT+’s pedigree: FORTUNES CIARA (dam of twice Top Ten Halter and National winner sire GEORGIO AF) and FORTUNES GOLD (dam of U.S. Reserve National Champion Futurity Filly SUZANNA MPA and U.S. Top Ten Junior Stallion and National winner sire VERSACES GOLD), who both trace to BAY ABI++, and CHINA WIND (dam of Canadian Top Ten Gelding CHOPMIST JOHN B+), who traces to RUSSIAN ROULETT+’s 4th dam BAYANKA. WIND FORTUNE get have produced National winning sporthorses including U.S. Reserve National Champion Sporthorse Under Saddle ATR PIEDMONT++++//, U.S. Reserve National Champion Training Level Dressage and Top Ten First, Second, Third and Fourth Level Dressage RH INDEPENDENCE+//, 12 time National winner WC WINSTON+// (a Reserve National Champion in hunt pleasure) and BAE WIND+//, who has 5 National titles in dressage including U.S. National Champion Half-Arabian First Level Dressage.

WIND FORTUNE is by halter reserve champion FIRE WIND, whose show career was cut short by founder (he is a full brother to 2 champions, one of them a National winner in performance, and a maternal brother to a third who is a National Champion producer). He sired 14 National winners including National Champions in halter, western pleasure and hunt pleasure and Top Ten winners in trail, English sidesaddle, western sidesaddle, and working cow horse. FIRE WIND get have produced National winners in country pleasure, show hack, pleasure driving, native costume, and trail and National Champions in English pleasure, hunt pleasure, western pleasure, western sidesaddle, reining, hunter hack and dressage. One FIRE WIND daughter, SCARLET WIND, produced 4 National winners in 4 different disciplines (English pleasure, country pleasure, western pleasure and reining)!

WIND FORTUNE is out of MACS FANCY, dam of 4 champions and of YS FANFARE, a 3/4 brother to WIND FORTUNE and sire of U.S. and Canadian Top Ten Half-Arabian Western Pleasure FANS SILVER LADY (who produced 2 National winners herself, one of them a National Champion in western pleasure). WIND FORTUNE’s grandparents include *BASK++, LAKSHMI (dam of 3 National winners), National Champion sire MR MAC (whose get have titles in halter, stock horse, and western pleasure) and BINT BABEYN (dam of U.S. National Champion Trail EL MASEYN+/).

RUSSIAN ROULETT’s distaff side is as distinguished as his sire’s side of his pedigree. His dam MUSCATASHA had just three offspring, one of them, WIND MUSK, a multi-halter champion who is a full brother to RUSSIAN ROULETT+. Her sire, U.S. and Canadian National Champion Stallion *MUSCAT, has sired over 200 champions and 55 National winners, including U.S. National Champion Mare AMBER SATIN and National Champions in western pleasure, reining and hunt pleasure. 82 of his get have produced National winners through 2009. MUSCATASHA’s dam, halter reserve champion TALAENA, is the dam of multi-National halter winner ZIMPULSE+ and of regional halter winner TALISMAN BEY. Five of her offspring have produced champions and 3 have produced National winners. Her other National winner producers are KHURINA Y (dam of U.S. Top Ten Sporthorse Gelding KNIGHT THYME SA and twice U.S. Top Ten Working Cow Horse Futurity KHOKHETTE SA) and TALISMAN BEY, a sire of National Champions in halter and National winners in county pleasure, trail, country pleasure driving and show hack. TALAENA is by U.S. Top Ten Stallion and National Champion sire *TALAL, whose get have produced National winners in park, hunt pleasure, halter, western pleasure, cutting, English pleasure and U.S. National Champion Hunter and Jumper FARLEEZE+/ and U.S. National Champion Hunter SPECIALTEEZE (thus *TALAL is a source not only of speed but jumping ability as well!). TALAENA is one of only three foals of BAY ENCHANTRESS, who also produced National winner producer HALF MOON BAY, dam of 4 champions from 9 foals including Canadian Top Ten Futurity Filly KAY, dam of 8 champions, 4 National winners, and 3 producers of National winners including multi-Top Ten Stallion SHOWKAYCE+, who has the highest percentage of National winning get of any living stallion with 50 or more registered foals (53%). BAY ENCHANTRESS is by National halter winner MOTIFE++ out of National Champion producer BAYANKA, dam of Canadian Reserve National Champion Stallion and National winner sire KAIYOUM++. BAYANKA produced 5 champions and 3 producers of National winners. BAY ENCHANTRESS’ four grandparents are all National winner producers and she is the granddaughter of two of the most significant mares ever imported from Poland: *NAGANKA (dam of National Champions BAY EL BEY++ and MIKADO++) and *BACHANTKA, dam of 2 National winners and 6 National winner producers. *NAGANKA and *BACHANTKA, along with U.S. National Champion Stallion BAY ABI++ (BAY ENCHANTRESS’ maternal grandsire) are the linchpins of the Varian breeding program which has produced National Champions in virtually every show ring discipline as well as race winners.

RUSSIAN ROULETT+ is thus bred many generations deep to have the heart and talent he has displayed in his long show career.
